Balance and Composure 029

Given my current “day job” situation, I’ve missed out on some good shows. Thankfully, the stars lined up in my favor for a secret show at CDA with Balance and Composure. I’ve been wanting to see this band live for a while and there was no better way for a first time than with a handful of people in a living room… Wait. That sounds wrong.

After the last show at CDA, “no more weekday shows” was decided with cops lurking around the neighborhood. A full-band B&C set, however, was obviously an exception to the house’s new rules. This CDA show couldn’t be advertised publicly, as previous shows were, since the band was playing shows at the Roxy the following two nights.

Simply put, this band is AMAZING. Balance and Composure put out everything they had into the performance. There was so much emotion in the vocals, you really didn’t need a microphone to feel the power (of course, standing 3 feet away doesn’t hurt either). The band didn’t seem bothered by the small space; Their movements were natural and they looked very at home being face-to-face with people singing along. You can tell they have a good connection to their music and what they’re playing. Even though there were only a few of us in the audience, Balance and Composure didn’t hold back at all. If they put this much energy into a small show, I can only imagine how headlining shows are going to be when they start getting the recognition they deserve.

These guys are really humble and I loved that about them. Besides making and performing great music, their personalities and friendliness definitely give them extra points as a band.
By the way, since many people didn’t get to see this live, here’s a video of the entire set shot by my buddy Emilio: http://vimeo.com/23290311
As always, a million thanks to Felicia and Carly of CDA for putting on shows despite the risk of neighbors’ complaints. Big shout out to the wolfpack!
