Events like this give me a glimpse into what my high school reunion is going to be like. So Aktiv Entertainment hired me along with a few others to cover their first annual artist showcase. With a broad range of performers showing off skills in hip-hop, rap, R&B, and even rock, So Aktiv Entertainment is showing that they are taking the music industry by force!

So what’s with the high school reunion remark? I know some of the artists and behind-the-scenes minds of So Aktiv personally (some of them as early as elementary school) but I haven’t seen or heard from them since high school. With a time gap of four years, I guess we all surprised each other with what’s been going on in our lives. It’s really good to see old friends and how successful they’ve been in setting up goals and knocking them down.

The energy was pretty high up the entire night. What’s great about Awakenings Coffeehouse is that it provides a close, intimate performance space. Does anyone remember Sacred Grounds in San Pedro? It’s sort of like that but I really liked this venue a lot. Artists were able to get really close to their audience, even inviting some up on stage for that extra intimate show.

With the R&B artists making the ladies swoon and the rappers getting the crowd hyped up, there wasn’t a bored face in the room. All of the artists got to show off their material and potential… definitely a successful night for the folks at So Aktiv Entertainment.

I’m not too sure what they plan to do with the pictures, but I’m looking forward to working with them again. Be sure to check out the group’s myspace page: www.myspace.com/soaktivent

Sample the broad range of music they have available, you’re sure to find some great talent.
Here are a few shots from the night:

….and just so my friend Paul can’t say he didn’t show up anywhere:

Good luck, everyone. I’m really looking forward to seeing what you all come up with in the near future!
